Making good progress with SoftMaker Office for Android

As some of you might already know, we are currently working on SoftMaker Office for Android. We plan to offer SoftMaker Office for Android phones, tables, and netbooks, so that users of these systems can finally use our powerful office suite.

TextMaker, PlanMaker, and SoftMaker Presentations for Android offer the same high degree of compatibility with the Microsoft Office file formats as their desktop counterparts under Windows and Linux. This means that, for the first time, a fully compatible office suite will be available for Android – one that supports change tracking, is able to correctly display all AutoShapes and images, that can display comments like Microsoft Word does, and one that faithfully renders all Microsoft Excel charts.

We will announce the public beta test at a later time. In the meantime, here are some screenshots to whet your appetite… :-)

This software, as it was on Windows Mobile, will be a pillar that will make all the Android based phones much stronger!

  • daz says:

Will auto filter be available in planmaker?

  • admin says:

daz, AutoFilter is not yet in the internal beta builds. I will suggest to the developers to make it available.

Please do a version of your great suite also for android honeycomb , we need a serious office for our tablet. I think that every owners of xoom , acer iconia , galaxy tab or asus transfomer will buy it if works like a “real” compatibility ms office suite.
    I wait with impatience.

  • admin says:

Snowg, SoftMaker Office should already run on Honeycomb.

  • vip says:

Any progress. Is there an estimated date for release ?

  • admin says:

vip, SoftMaker Office is currently in private beta testing. No date yet on the final release. But you can be sure that we will proclaim it loudely… :-)

I am happy to hear that you are porting your software to Android. I have used your it on my WM 5 and 6.5 smartphones in the past and was impressed. I changed to an Android phone recently and was not so happy as there was no decent office apps at all but I look forward to your release. All the best for your future success guys and keep up the good work!

As a user of Softmaker Office on Windows, Windows Mobile, and Windows CE looking forward to the same quality product on Android Tablets.

  • DJM says:

will the Softmaker functionality be consistent across all platforms? for some weird reason there is no current android office suite which support spellcheck, all seem to rely on the keyboard spell checking which is lamentably insufficient for spellchecking a whole document or editing after the fact…

  • admin says:

DJ, SoftMaker Office on Android supports on-the-fly spell-checking, marking typos with red squiggly underlines.

  • When may we reasonably, finally, expect “Softmaker Office for Android” to be available on the Android Market? I need an ETA (estimated time of arrival). It would also be nice to know what will be the approximate cost of the Android version of “Softmake Office.”

I’m trying to make some long-term decisions about my and my wife’s both Windows laptop computers and Android smartphones; and if I know, for a fact, that the Android version of your “Softmaker Office” product will be available soon, then I am inclined to go ahead and put your Windows version onto both of our new laptop computers, and then patiently wait. But if the release of your Android version is still a long way off, then perhaps I’ll just go with Libre Office on the laptops, and upgrade the “lite” version of QuickOffice which came with both our phones to the “Pro” version.

Truthfully, I’d rather use your Softmaker products, entirely. But, in my opinion, you’re taking too long to release the Android version.

Also, while I have your attention, what’s the ETA on your Datamaker product? That, too, is important.

If your answer contains proprietary information, then do not hesitate to contact me privately. I’ve been in IT for 35 years, and I have many software company clients who also have secrets. I understand discretion.

Looking forward to either your response, here, or to hearing from you privately (or both).

Gregg, SoftMaker Office for Android has definitely taken longer to develop than anticipated, but we are very close to the public beta. If you wish to have a look at the private beta builds, get a forum account at and e-mail it together with your participation request to info (at)

The German computing magazine Android User just printed a review of Android word processors by Tam Hanna. Tam gave SoftMaker Office a five-star rating, whereas he called QuickOffice a “big disappointment”… 😉

We don’t have an ETA for DataMaker at all at the moment. We announced it too early, way before it was ready, and now we’ll only announce it again when it’s really ready.

  • Ivan says:

Please say, have we any chance to see SMO for Android (or, may be, TextMaker alone) during this spring?
It’s a problem for me to use Android without good Office and SMO was announced just a year before and now we are still waiting for beta/ When?!

  • admin says:

Ivan, if everything goes well, you will see the public beta this March.
